Community Development and LEAP – Local Energy Action Plan
LEAP are focused on a Community Development based approach to meet the challenges of climate change. We have funding to work within energy, education and transport within the Renfrewshire villages of Lochwinnoch, Bridge of Weir, Kilbarchan, Houston, Crosslee and Brookfield on a range of community based programmes.
We aim to work in partnership with residents, groups and organisations within the villages to help raise awareness of energy efficiency in the home (Home Energy Checks), community energy opportunities (see renewables group), the junior climate challenge and lower carbon transport options (such as Leap Car Club). We also facilitated the setting up of Grow Kilbarchan (an initiative supporting the growing of local food) and EAT Lochwinnoch (who are interested in the provision of good food for the community). In Education, we have organised workshops by Eco Drama (a Glasgow based performance organisation for children) and supported the setting up of growing spaces at the local primary schools and nurseries. In partnership with various local organisations we have also run a number of re-use events including Bike Swaps and Swishes (clothing swaps) .
If you are a resident or group based in Lochwinnoch, Bridge of Weir, Kilbarchan, Houston, Crosslee, Brookfield and have an energy saving idea you would like to discuss with LEAP, please contact us.
