LEAP Car Club recently featured in Carplus’ October 2015 Car Club report which highlighted the growth of the car club sector and its increasingly important role in rural transport and the changing landscape of car club communities.
Based in Lochwinnoch, Bridge of Weir and Kilbarchan, LEAP Car Club has over 50 members and provides convenient and affordable access to pay as you drive vehicles including plug-in electric vehicles (EVs). It offers individuals, families and employers the opportunity to experience EV technology first-hand and in doing so is changing the way people travel, by reducing dependency on privately owned cars and fossil-fuelled transport.
Gordon Nicholl, from Lochwinnoch, joined the LEAP Car Club just over two years ago when it came time to replace the car he then owned. He now walks or uses his bus pass for most journeys, and appreciates that being a car club member saves him from worrying about unexpected repair bills. He would never have considered trying an electric car unless one had been available through the LEAP car club and now this is his first option when booking out a car club car.
Mike Callaghan, the LEAP Car Club Co-ordinator welcomed the Scotland wide publicity from Carplus. ‘It puts our rural community car club firmly on the map in Scotland and highlights our role in sharing transport resources and reducing carbon emissions locally.’
