About the event
Join this existing Lochwinnoch based class, providing children with a unique opportunity to delve into Afro-Brazilian culture. Through engaging in collective movement, the participants are not only learning but also gaining confidence and poise. They are also learning percussion instruments and through singing are learning words in Portuguese and Yoruban languages. Held at Lochwinnoch Community Annexe, the sessions are led by two dedicated teachers who commute from Glasgow every week from the social enterprise Capoeira 4 Scotland. Guided by rhythmic beats from traditional drums, the children gradually grasp the fundamentals of capoeira movements. By the end of the night the children are taking turns to 'play' in a capoeira 'roda' where two at a time practice flips and sways in sync with each other in a circle of singing and clapping in time.
